short & sweet : back in Tanegashima for Obon

Apparently I am the only one that thinks this is a cute picture…

In other news:

Noa and I have been going to the ocean daily. He likes to prance around and jog. Today he went pretty far in with me only to be swept to shore by a wave and never again to want to go into the ocean.

Hana managed to stop saying “mama” and for the first time called Noa by his name… “ng-a”

that is all.

Off to Singapore on Sunday and all the family is back together in Tokyo on the 23rd.

Family trip to Tanegashima

It’s summer vacation! So we can either have the kids hang around all summer and drive us (mostly Kiko!) crazy, or we can ship the family off to Tanegashima.

This year, it happens to align with the total eclipse (I’ll give you a hint… rain) where the Southern tip of Tanegashima was in the 100% zone.

We also took a side trip to Yakushima, the island that inspired Hayao Miayazaki’s Princess Mononoke (Look it up) and Noa got to play with nature (touch bugs), and both Hana and Noa got to play with their cousins.

I took one week (the first one) with them and am heading back to Tokyo shortly. I have a feeling he is going to forget all his English by the time he gets back, so I have loaded him up with some Super Why! (Look it up!) and Transformers.

In the meantime, here is our week in pictures…

Our dissapointing but still cool 100% total eclipse. (It did get really dark outside for 2 minutes!)

Hana throwing a tantrum over the fact that we couldn’t actually see the eclipse.

Noa’s friend George. I am too lazy to turn it the right way round.

Both Noa and Hana really enjoyed the ocean this time around.

Noa enjoys relaxing…

… and Hana enjoys posing.

All of these were taken with the iPhone camera so apologies in advance. (Actually they came out pretty good.)

Since I am making this post in the ghetto, you will have to squint and turn your head appropriately to enjoy the pictures.

I am going to miss everyone while they are here, but with trips to Dalian, China and Singapore coming up… will be busy.

Trauma

So we have had a number of traumas recently (this is of course after we learned Hana was broken.)

Let’s share.

Fighting

Typical Daddy/Noa fight

  • Daddy, I don’t want to play with you all day! I don’t want to sleep with you.
  • I’M ANGRY!!!!
  • Go to work all Day!
  • Me: OK Noa. See ya.
  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  • Go in your room!!! Stay all day and don’t have fun!!

Not sure what this is about.

The Moose Incident

A few years ago Toronto ran a moose campaign. Tracy and I watched some really silly lady run face first/full steam into one and get completely floored.

Unfortunately Noa decide to do his best to emulate this.

Noa is running through the mall with Hana’s toy dog trailing behind via leash.

Full speed, looking back, SMACK!

Huge noise, Noa goes flying, EVERYONE in the mall looks over.

Fortunately he wasn’t hurt, but super embarrassed and super shocked.

Ok so I lied. He doesn’t run, he lumbers.

Balcony

I used to wonder how children fell off balconies.

Was using the computer and heard Hana’s tricycle.

All good until I remember that we keep Hana and Noa’s bicycles on the balcony of our 3rd floor apartment.

I open my curtain to see Hana happily sitting in her tricycle wringing the bell.

Apparently Noa let her out on the balcony, closed the window and shut the curtains.

I asked him how Hana got outside and he told me Mommy must have done it.

I am innocent because I am cute.
